Blizzard Bags Provide an Emergency Food Supply
January 22, 2004 -- Girl Scouts from Troop 270 in Ithaca pack blizzard bags for people who receive meals on wheels from Foodnet in case deliveries need to be canceled because of a winter storm. Troop 270 has studied winter storm safety and disaster preparedness with materials provided by AARP and the American Red Cross as part of this volunteer experience. Foodnet has emergency food supplies on hand at community senior nutrition sites as well. Foodnet provides 550 meals to 415 people each weekday, with frozen meals provided for weekends.
