Quilters Give Placemats

Katie Barnaby peeks over a stack of place mats sewn for meals on wheels.

Katie Barnaby and Steve Griffin admire some of the place mats being given to the people served by Foodnet.

November 14, 2003 -- You can feel the love that went into each place mat! Local quilters have been busy this autumn sewing more than 500 charming and delightful place mats for Foodnet's Meals on Wheels Program. Delivery drivers will give one to each person in the meals on wheels program and Steve Griffin will distribute them to congregate participants during his site visits this month.

Merrie Wilent and her friends at Quilters Corner came up with the idea as a way for people who enjoy quilting to remember older adults in our community with a warm and caring gift. They sponsored a contest to sew a place mat for Foodnet and enter a drawing for a free Pfaff Quilt Expression 2044 Sewing Machine. With no experience necessary, it was a good way to see how much fun it is to sew!

Karen Cronce is the lucky winner of this sewing machine.
